Introduction
The
World Cup for Cross Country Rallies is the toughest, most gruelling race
series in the world. Both vehicle and driver compete hard in the face
of the most testing climates and terrain the planet has to offer. From
the roasting deserts of the United Arab Emirates to the cruel arctic conditions
of Russia, it is the most exacting test of endurance yet devised. Day
after day of hard fought motoring strapped inside the vehicle, navigating
by GPS over the most inhospitable terrain in the world, this competition
pushes both man and machine to the very limits of endurance.
Currently there are eight events in the Cross Country Rally Series.

Serious
Competition
Motor-Sport
generally impacts on vehicle brand image and reputation, none more
so than the 4x4 market. The World Cross Country Cup is the most important
and therefore the most effective means of bringing your product to
the attention of the world market. If your vehicle can finish this
race, let alone win it, the desired boost to the vehicle's image and
reputation is assured. The World Cup is also the most prestigious
of the 4x4 world class events. Most of the world's major players will
be represented this coming year as more and more manufacturers realise
the gains and benefits this competition brings. Very high profile
media coverage is guaranteed throughout the year as more and more
stages are completed. Coverage becomes main stream and "Prime
Time" as the competition warms-up to a climax throughout August,
September and October.
In fact Volkswagen have taken the World Cross Country Cup so seriously
that they have entered three new prototype vehicles in next years
series. They have entered three T2 Proto diesel powered Tarek buggies.
These vehicles will be powered by the proven Volkswagen 1.9TDI engine
that has been boosted to 218hp.(160KW).
2005 will be an interesting year in cross country rallying and there
has been talk of other manufacturers testing new prototype vehicles
as well and joining the series.

Be Part of The Winning Team
Waverley
4x4 Racing have brought together a group of highly experienced, high achieving
off-road professionals in a bid to win the World Cup for Cross Country
Rallies. With so many vehicles already established in the 4x4 arena, Waverley Racing
are looking to develop a partnership with a major world class 4x4 manufacturer that
has a relatively new or pre-release vehicle to offer. That vehicle must be able to
compete effectively and indeed win the standard vehicle class. To that end Waverley 4x4 Racing are pleased
to announce that after due consideration, the Lexus 4x4 would meet their criteria
in a bid to win the 2005 World Cup for Cross Country Rallies.
With
Waverley 4x4 Racing, potential sponsors will be able to draw on over 50
years experience of the off-road competition scene. Waverley's knowledge,
ingenuity and engineering talents are unmatched. Waverley is quite simply,
a complete, well packaged winning team comprising:-
 |
Race
Engineers. |
 |
Race Crew. |
 |
Drivers. |
 |
Logistics. |
 |
Team Management. |
 |
Marketing. |
 |
Public Relations. |
With
Waverley's proven track record and winning skills, coupled with solid
high profile connections in the motor-sport and mainstream media, they
are truly a force to be reckoned with.
Product
Positioning
Breaking
into established markets is difficult without clear brand positioning.
The World Cup offers a unique opportunity to position your product in
an ever more competitive and complicated 4x4 market. By offering clearly
defined classes and groups within the main competition, drivers and manufacturers
can choose the level at which they wish to compete and be judged by. This
competition provides a real opportunity to shift public attitudes and
preconceptions in a positive way towards your product range.
Are you surprised by any of the following samples from a recent survey?
 |
The Landcruiser is the reliable people lugger. |
 |
The Land Rover is the British workhorse. |
 |
The Lexus 4x4 "I didn't know they made one". |
 |
The Pajero is the sporty 4x4. |
 |
The Range Rover is a rich man's plaything. |
 |
The BMW X5 is an executive posing wagon. |

The Laredo is the young persons 4x4. |

Marketing ( Media Coverage )
Unlike
the football World Cup and the Olympic games which are staged every four
years and last only a few weeks, the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies
spans most of the year with exciting events and masses of main stream
and specialist media coverage. Like Formula 1, WCCCR is a world class
event and as such attracts a huge audience. F1 for example is watched
on television by over 380,000,000 viewers world wide every two weeks during
the F1 season.
Any
vehicle we race will be entering a global stage in front of the world
press as a new vehicle with a new team and will be guaranteed a high profile.
To keep the profile high and to keep the vehicle in the public's eye,
we have a several tools at our disposal.
1.
Active links with several of the hugely successful 4 x 4 magazines will
enable us to give regular photo opportunities to the right press people
thus keeping the vehicle in the public eye on a regular basis. This will
have the added benefit of building brand awareness and brand loyalty at
the same time.
For
the main vehicle sponsor, building the identity and positioning for the
vehicle will be important.
Adding real world values to the vehicle and expanding those values
through the media will play a key role in developing the customer base
and making gains in market share. This competition provides the perfect
platform on which to build the product awareness and brand loyalty messages
that are vital in maintaining share and repeat sales. To make an impact with a
product on people is very hard nowadays. People have seen and heard everything and very
little is new to them. Invariably you are forced to take extreme measures
to grab peoples attention.
A
standard 4x4 entering and completing the most gruelling off road
races in the world! That would grab anybodies attention
.!
2. Our links with several television production companies could mean that
a documentary covering the team and it's vehicles would be an option (scheduled
for release at the right time of course); or a selection of small pieces
on regional news channels building up to the events that we participate
in and covering our return.
Combining
these differing forms of media will enable us to:
 |
Build a positive image in a global market. |
|
Build a league of keen followers. |
 |
Generate added value for the vehicle and the brand. |
 |
Create a positive identity. |
 |
Build awareness to potential purchasers. |
|
Give the vehicle new status. |
 |
Gain new market placement for people. |
All
this and more is achievable for the right vehicle in our hands.
Waverley
4x4 Racing would undertake to attend shows and press events as directed
by the sponsor provided these events can be coordinated with the race
event schedule. The Val D'isere 4x4 Show in August is just one such possibility.
3.
The internet is a fast, cost effective, and creative way to promote such
a campaign. As part of our marketing and media arm we have designers and
developers that have won Yell Awards in 2000 and 2001 for internet innovation
and creativity. This team will devise an appropriate online strategy that
will provide a highly targeted yet global marketing and promotion
tool.
Winning
Strategy
Waverley
have produced a well considered two year plan and mission statement.
Year
1
To enter two new vehicles and compete in as many events as possible. The
team will race at a set pace to greatly increase the chances of survival
and thus complete all events and stages in good shape. A good point building
tactic.
Year
2
To build on the experience of Year 1 and with further vehicle development
in place, the team will go full out and compete to win the full year's
events.
This
strategy produces some high value side effects.
 |
Realistic point scoring first year entry. |
 |
Real data for vehicle improvement. |
 |
Important class wins in the first year against high bank rolled teams. |
 |
High media visibility as the vehicle always finishes. |
 |
Reduced race costs and vehicle damage. |
Waverley 4x4 Racing Statement
 |
| From
showroom to rally winner |
|
To
take any vehicle from the showroom and turn it into a rally winner takes
a lot of commitment, time and money. To achieve the same with a 4x4 vehicle
is nearly impossible. Realistically understanding the goals that you set
for yourself with what you have at your disposal is very important. Companies
such as Volkswagen spend millions of dollars developing vehicles for cross
country racing and even more on testing and development.
Even with all their resources they are hoping that maybe one of their
vehicles will finish their first race. We as a team are equally aware
of the financial and time obligations that will be placed upon us to show
results in our first year. To seriously enter, compete and come away with
tangible results we will be using our tried and tested preparation schedule.

Final
high profile race of the year. ( Paris - Dakar )
Although not officially part of the World Cross Country Series calendar,
it is considered the finale of the racing year with such historic prestige
and kudos for the finishers that every manufacturer wants to be involved. |
This
is a two year plan based upon the amount of races in the year and the
possible delivery time of the vehicles and associated funding. This would
allow a first year entry into the Cross Country Rally Cup at a set pace,
enabling us to build on our hard work and develop the vehicles for a full
season of racing in the second year. The methodical approach to our racing
programme would yield benefits by way of finishing events and possible
class wins against the likes of Mercedes and BMW.
Main
Sponsorship
To
become part of the winning team, a successful sponsor will provide:-
Two
new vehicles with a full parts/support backup programme.
Two
service support vehicles to be in attendance at each competition event
and at all major research and development sessions.
Financial
support during both phases of the project.
